I will never forget catching lightning bugs as a kid. My cousin and I would get a jar from our grandparents can room and most times our Papa or Grandma would poke holes in the tin for us so our bugs wouldn't die. It was so exciting for us every year when we started seeing these little bugs twinkle and welcome cool summer nights. We would run around bare foot in the cool grass and catch as many lightning bugs as we could. It was a simple moment in my life that holds a special spot in my heart. When I think back on this time in my life I can best describe it as, carefree. No worries, no cares only who was going to catch the next twinkler and get to yell, "I got one!"
As a kid I always thought my cousin and I would see each other all the time and that nights would always be filled with such carefree fun like this. Children see the world only as they have known it and expect it to remain that way forever. Even to this day I am still learning to savor every second. I sometimes have to pause and remind myself to enjoy the moment because I know it won't last forever.
Although years have passed and my cousin and I are miles and miles apart we still love one another very much and try to chat when we can. Times may have changed but we will always share the memories of these wonderful times together.
Hope you have a beautiful Wednesday!
Kim
