Halloween has got to be a close second behind Christmas for any kid. Who can resist dressing up and getting paid in candy? As a kid my Mom always bought me a wax harmonica. Talk about a dilemma. The wax harmonicas smelled and tasted delicious while serving as a whistle. That is, if you could keep from biting it. Honestly, mine never lasted long.
Growing up in the mountains of Virginia meant cold weather on Halloween. We never wore light costumes and if we did we had to wear a coat. We also couldn't walk door-to-door because our nearest neighbors weren't very close. So Mom drove us to each house to trick-or-treat. It was always great fun and at the end of the night I had a score of Reece's Peanut Butter Cups, mini Hershey bars, bazooka gum and if you were really lucky a packet of Pop Rocks would find their way into your bucket! Always settling to the bottom of my bucket was candy corn packets and Tootsie Rolls. Ill admit, as a kid, I never really cared for the candy corn but as time has passed I've kinda fell in love with it. Now I look forward to fall so I can grab my first bag of candy corn.
