As a kid, before kids and now after kids, October has always meant pumpkin carving! It's a tradition. I've always looked forward to this time of year. The cooler weather, Halloween, pumpkin pie and pumpkin carving!! The big difference between my childhood years and now with pumpkin carving is the fact that the weather was cooler where I grew up. Living in Florida, warmer weather means we have to wait until very close to Halloween before carving our pumpkins otherwise they will rot almost instantly. Growing up in the mountains of Virginia we could carve our pumpkins and allow them to sit out for much longer because the cooler weather slowed the breakdown of the Jack-O-Lanterns!
